This template is a guide for employees and their managers to identify development opportunities and create a plan of action to support the employee's growth and career development within the organization.

A list of the employee's current skills, abilities and strengths that they bring to their current role. You can have the employee and their manager complete this section.

Development needs

A list of areas in which the employee would like to improve or develop new skills, abilities or knowledge. This should be based on both the employee's perspective and their manager's observations.

Professional goals

The employee's professional goals and aspirations, including the skills, abilities or knowledge they would like to acquire to achieve those goals.

If possible, write these as SMART (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound) goals. Here's more about that.

Actionable steps

What are the immediate next steps? What resources does the employee need in order to accomplish their goals?
